Install on internal results in boot loop

I have a J4125 router (the Chinese PC/OpnSense routers)

I can flash and run SmoothWAN from USB with no issues using “SmoothWAN-0.99.9HF5-PC-EFI-AMD64-DiskImage-or-WebUI.img.gz” but if i try to install on the inbuilt SSD I get a boot loop. OpenWrt installs and runs with no issues. I have tried the following to no avail.

Run SmoothWAN from USB and install on internal SSD the way SmoothWAN guide suggest
SmoothWAN from USB and install on internal SSD the way OpenWRT is installed
Linux LiveUSB. Installed mkusb and cloned extracted img file to internal SSD.

All three result in the same bootloops

Any help?

It restarts twice on first run to expand as mentioned in Install to internal drive - SmoothWAN, did it restart infinitely?
